Kiss me I’m Irish

On St Patrick’s Day, it is customary to wear shamrocks, green clothing or green accessories. St Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, to explain the Trinity to the pagan Irish. You can find these symbols everywhere on St. Patricks day. Even those who are not Irish join in. Do you remember you would get pinched if you didn’t wear green to school on St. Patrick’s Day? I am pretty sure boys made that up.

A ton of people attend the celebrations and parade in Chicago and it is their annual tradition. I am not into crowds and quiet honestly it usually a little too cold for me so I stay at home where it is warm and safe. Plus, I am not Irish….or am I? My oldest daughter did the Ancestry.com DNA test and it said we are very much Irish – who knew?

I was thinking of attending the parade this year, seeing the chaos that happens downtown, trying to get in touch with this new found curiosity to “my people.” lol Then they cancelled or postponed the parade do to the pandemic of the Coronavirus. I understand being careful, washing your hands, etc. but really from I have observed there is enough alcohol served in that 24 hours that I find it hard to believe any virus would stick to a true Irishman.

I guess I’ve waited this long another year won’t kill me… like a virus might…too soon?

Plus, honestly just because DNA has shown that I have Irish biology the reality is I don’t like Corned Beef and Cabbage, Guinness Beer, or being around a bunch of drunk people. I only like the kissing part! Now, how predictable was that?

No matter how you celebrate tomorrow please everyone be safe and fun St. Patrick’s Day!
